Announcement

The Kalamazoo Scottish Festival Association (KSFA) is pleased to announce that it has received determination from the IRS that it is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and is classified as a public charity. This new status allows KSFA to accept tax-deductible donations and grants that will be used to continue their important work of growing awareness of Scottish heritage and supporting other non-profits such as the local Boy Scouts and Save Our Strays in their activities. Donations and grants are fully tax deductible as provided by law retroactive to the determination date of February 23, 2019.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about Kalamazoo Scottish Festival Association being a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization” said David McMurray, KSFA Board President. “Achieving this opens so many doors for us – such as expanding the festival to bring more awareness of Scottish culture in Southwestern Michigan.”

Athletic Director and Board Secretary Kate Boeve says this new status will allow us to improve our equipment and grow the games that our athletes look forward to each year. It will also allow us to continue to support our local community. “I’m excited to see what 2020 brings. We saw so much disappointment from athletes and community attendees when we cancelled the 2019 games to regroup and rebuild”.

Your donations can help us bring the festival back in 2020 while supporting some great, local non-profits. If you are a local non-profit and would like to be considered for our Charity of the Year, please email your one-page story telling us about your organization and why you would like to be considered.

The Kalamazoo Scottish Festival Association is looking for volunteers to help plan the 2021 festival. As an all-volunteer Association, we rely on donations and volunteers to make this festival happen. Please contact info@kalamazooscottishfest.org for more information on how you can help.
